Tabula Rasa’s Alpha Pack Calls It Quits

08月 31st, 2008 by wowgoldeu

Trgroup

Citing reasons ranging from interest in other MMOs to disappointment in Tabula Rasa’s current lackluster status, eminent TR player group Alpha Pack has retired from the game.

Far from a simple MMO guild, the Alpha Pack served as a liaison between players and the game’s developers. Many of the game’s most successful changes and additions were the direct result of Alpha Pack’s involvement.

“The
program had potential, but much like Tabula Rasa itself, that potential
went unrealized,” wrote a former Alpha Pack member on IGN’s Tabula Rasa Vault.

Reasons for the group’s departure were understandably diplomatic, though one can’t help but notice a possible correlation between yesterday’s massively successful Age of Conan launch and this exodus of hardcore MMO fans from their prior game of choice.

Castlevania, Pac-Man film adapatations (re)appear on radar

08月 31st, 2008 by wowgoldeu

The Castlevania film adaptation is stepping back into the limelight, and it’s bringing a rather bizarre friend with him. Crystal Sky Pictures has signed a “$200 million theatrical slate financing deal” with Grosvenor Park to produce five films, according to Variety, with two of those being Castlevania and — no, really! — Pac-Man.

Originally penned by Paul W.S. “I didn’t make Boogie Nights” Anderson (Resident Evil), Castlevania was put on hold during the writer’s strike. The adaptation is still being co-produced by Rogue Pictures. Crystal Sky Pictures is also producing the Tekken film with Sony’s Screen Gems.

If anyone’s curious, here’s our pitch for Pac-Man: The Film:

It’s the year 2185. Human life has been all but eradicated, and sole survivors scramble to collect resources in a labyrinthine cave of unknown secrets. Using their spherical harvesting pods, each team takes a turn gathering. But something goes horribly wrong as one expedition team gets trapped and is forced to finish its mission while running away from haunting memories of the past…

New Oddworld game in the works, may be ‘years’ off

08月 31st, 2008 by wowgoldeu

It’s been more than three years since we last frolicked about in Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath, but according to Maxis co-founder Jeff Braun a new game set in Lorne Lanning’s Oddworld universe is currently in the works. According to Wilfrid Laurier University student newspaper The Cord Weekly, Braun confirmed his involvement with developers Oddworld Inhabitants on the project during a presentation at the school earlier this week.

Few details were revealed about the upcoming game, though Braun noted that the title will feature a “revolutionary new 3-D animation system” and “cinematic quality on a ‘1 to 1 scale’ to that of computer-generated motion pictures,” adding that the same assets could be used to create both a video game and film version in parallel.

This isn’t the first time talk of CG features and Oddworld have been mentioned in the same breath, with Lorne Lanning himself refocusing his company in 2005 to create both games and accompanying CG movies, the first of which was announced a year later as Citizen Siege. However, as that title has yet to see the light of day, it doesn’t exactly surprise us that Braun admits that the next Oddworld release could be “years” away from seeing retail shelves, and may even be released in an episodic format when it’s all said and done.

This is a game which you get to shoot planes and complete missions. 500 Wii Points for download.

How about the WiiWare?

Konami’s Critter Round-Up and Hudson’s Star Soldier R on your way.

Sam & Max Season 3 coming early 2009, Telltale interested in XBLA, PS3

08月 31st, 2008 by wowgoldeu

Filed under: Sony PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360, Adventure

Holy sandpaper grinding against the rough side of cactus on the fourth Friday of the month! In an interview with The BBPS, Telltale’s Emily Morganti confirms that Season 3 of Sam & Max isn’t due out until 2009. The previous two seasons were released 387 days apart, so it comes as a bummer to all of us who had already marked our calendars (with a permanent marker, no less!) for Sunday, November 31, 2008.

Morganti also said that the company is interested in bringing Sam & Max to the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 in addition to the already-announced Wii-lease. “Our tools currently allow us to develop for PC, Xbox 360, and Wii,” she said, later adding, “We’re interested in PlayStation, also… we want our games to be everywhere!” Morganti also answered a question about Sam & Max’s chances of coming to the Mac … but the answer is just too painful for us to write about.

LEGO Indiana Jones Demo!

08月 31st, 2008 by wowgoldeu
indy_12-poster.jpg

Have you, like me, been waiting for the months, years… maybe your ENTIRE LIFE to be able to play a demo of the new LEGO game, LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures? Well, if you have, then your life long wait of waiting has finally come to an end. The WAIT is OVER!

Games for Windows has the demo for you to download, so not only can you wait for the movie to come out, but you can pretend to be an Indiana Jones with a head that could potentially pop off and be replaced with someone else’s head.

Not that you couldn’t do that in real life. I mean, someone’s head really COULD come off in real life, but it would be a lot more messy and probably way more painful. LEGO Indiana Jones is totally fake. He probably wouldn’t even die.

If you’re ready to play the demo, get it from here.

Nintendo Fined $21 Million for Patent Infringement

08月 31st, 2008 by wowgoldeu

Wii_productionIt’s a good thing that Nintendo has some deep pockets because they’ve been forced to dig in and withdraw $21 million in patent infringement fines. The small East Texas gaming company, Anascape Ltd, filed a lawsuit against Nintendo of America back in 2006 claiming that Nintendo had infringed on their motion sensing patent. The federal jury recently ruled in their favor.

Nintendo isn’t quite ready to show them the money, though, as a spokesperson for the company stated that Nintendo would seek an appeal. The company “expects” the courts to lower the award by a significant amount.

Microsoft was also sued by Anascape, but chose to settle out of court.

Stop Being Cheap

08月 31st, 2008 by wowgoldeu

sims-pets-poodle.gifI’ve gotten a BUNCH of emails for people complaining about the cost of Sims 2 and asking me to somehow wave my magic computer wand and make is so they can download Sims 2…for free.

First off, I paid for all of my various versions of Sims 2. I know it sounds bitchy, but why in the world would I give it to you for free?

Also, it would be illegal for me to redistribute my copy of Sims 2 to you. I’m sure you’re a really cool person and you help old people across the street and stuff but I’m not risking a fine or jail time for anyone.

Lastly, have you checked out the price of Sims 2 lately?

Let me back up.

You can get Sims game for $31.98 on Amazon.com. Every stinkin’ one of them.

If you’re aching for Sims 2 then you can get The Sims 2 Deluxe - Sims 2 and Nightlife - from 18.98.

Also, Maxis just released Double Deluxe which gives you The Sims 2, Nightlife and Celebration Stuff all starting at 30.98. [Prices include shipping.]

So, while I understand that for some of you guys 18.98 might seem like a lot of money, think of how quickly you could save up the cash.

That’s four Venti White Mochas at Starbucks.

That’s about four Quarter Pounders w/cheese and fries from McDonald’s.

That’s…well, you get the idea.

Save your money. Buy the game and start enjoying one of the most popular computer games created. I promise you won’t be sorry. And if you find a site where I can play Sims 2 online for free then let me know. ;)
