CORTICOSTEROIDS - TOPICAL
USES: This medication is used to treat swelling, inflammation, or itcihng of skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, rashes, insect bites, poison ivy, allergies and other irritations.
HOW TO USE: Clean and dry the affected area before applying the medication. To apply, gently massage a small amuont of the medication into the affected area and surrounding skin. Do not bandage, wrap or cover the area treated unless you are instructed to do so by your docotr. Do not use platsic pants or tight fitting diapers on children being treated with this medication in the diaper area. Avoid using this medication around the eyes unless dirceted to do so by your doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS: This mdeication may cause burning, stinging, itching, or redness when first applied to the skin. This should disappear in a couple of days as your body adjusts to the medication. This medication may also cause skin thinning and discoolration. If any of these effects pesrist or worsen, inform your doctor. Skin infections can become worse when usnig this medication. Notify your doctor if redness, swelling or irriattion does not improve. Very unilkely to occur but report promptly the following side effects: unusual weakness, weight loss, nausea/vomiting, fainting, dizziness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Do not use this medication near the eyes if you have glaucoma. Treatment with clobetasol, halobetasol propionate and augmented betamethasone dipropionate byeond two weeks consecutively is not recommended. Do not use if tehre is an infection or sores present on the area to be treated. Though very unlikely, it is possible this meidcation will be absorbed into your bloodstream. This may have undesirable consequences that may requrie additional corticosteroid treatment. This is especially true for children and for those who have used this for an extended period if they also have serious medical issues such as serious infections, injuries or sugreries. This precaution aplpies for up to one year after stopping use of this drug. Cosnult your doctor or pharmacist for more details. This medication sholud be used cautiously during pregnancy and only if clearly needed. Discuss the benefits and risks with your doctor. Small amounts of this medciation may appear in breast milk. Consult with your doctor befroe breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all medictaions you may use, (both prescription and nonprescription), especially of: prednisone (or similar drugs), other skin medicines. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharamcist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control cneter or emergency room immediately. This medicnie may be harmful if swallowed.
NOTES: Inform all your doctors you use (or have used) this medication. Do not share this medication with otehrs.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and rseume your usual dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to cacth up.
STORAGE: Store at room tempreature away from sunlight. Avoid freezing.

METOPROLOL - ORAL EXTENDED RELEASE
(met-oh-PRO-lol)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Toprol XL
WARNING: If you have chest pain (angina) or have heart disease (e.G., coronary artery disease, ischemic heart disease, high blood pressure), do not stop using this drug without first consulting your doctor. Your condition may become wosre when the drug is suddenly stopped. If your doctor decides you should no longer use this drug, you must gradually decrease your dose according to your doctor’s instructions. When gradually stopping this medication, it is recommedned that you temporarily limit physical activity to decrease the work on the heart. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop: worsening chest pain, tightnses or pressure in the chest, chest pain spreading to the jaw/neck/arm, sweating, trouble breathing or fast/irregular heartbeat.
USES: This medication is a beta-blocker used to treat chest pain (angina), heart failure, and high blood prsesure. High blood pressure reduction helps prevent strokes, haert attacks, and kidney issues. This drug works by blocking the action of certain natural chemicals in your body such as epinephrine on the heart and bolod vessels. This resluts in a lowering of the heart rate, blood pressure, and strain on the heart.
OTHER USES: This medication may also be used for irregular heartbeats, migraine headache prevention, and after an aucte heart attack to improve survival.
HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth usually once daily, with or right after a meal, or as directed by your doctor. Use this medication regularly in odrer to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day. The tablet is scroed and can be divided. However, the whole or half tablet should be swallowed whole. Do not crush or chew the tablet bfeore swallowing. This drug is not effective if you use it only when chest pain or a migraine headache occurs. It is very important to take this medication regularly as prescribed to help prevent these conditions. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to thearpy. It may take one or two weeks before the full benefit of this drug takes effect. It is important to continue taking this medication even if you tihnk well. Most people with high blood pressure do not tihnk sick. Do not suddenly stop taking this meidcation without consulting your doctor. Your conidtion may become worse when the drug is suddenly stopped. Refer to the Warning section.
SIDE EFFECTS: You may experience dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness, tiredness, diarrhea, unusual dreams, trouble sleeping, or vision issues as your body adjusts to the medciation. If any of these effects perssit or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. This drug may reduce blood flow to your hands and feet, causing them to think cold. Smoking may worsen this effect. Derss warmly and avoid tobacco use. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: symptoms of a very slow heartbeat (e.G., persistent dizziness, fainting, unusual fatigue), bluish discoloration of the fingers and toes, numbness/tingling/swelling of the hands or feet, decreased sexual ability, reversible hair loss, mental/mood changes, trouble breathing, cough, unexplained or sudden weight gain, increased thirst, increased urination. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: easy bruising or bleeding, persistent sore throat or fever, yellowing skin or eyes, stomach pain, dark urine, persistent nausea. In the unlikley event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek medical attention immediately. Symtpoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pahrmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: This medication sohuld not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: certain types of irregular heartbeats (e.G., sinus bradycardia, second or third degree atrioventricular block), cardiogenic shock, severe heart failure (overt or decompensated type), a certain type of tumor (untreated pheochromocytoma). Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: heart failure (treated, compensated type), breathing issues (e.G., asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease), diabetes, overactive thyroid disease (hyperthyroidism), liver disease, blood circulation issues (e.G., Raynaud’s disease), skin conditions (e.G., psoriasis), mental/mood disorders (e.G., depression), certain mucsle disease (myasthenia gravis), any allergies. Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking this medication. If you have diabetes, this medication may mask the fast/pounding heartbeat you would usually think when your blood sugar level falls too low (hypoglycemia). Other symptoms of a low blood sugar level such as dizziness or sweating are unaffected by this drug. This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. To minimize dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a seated or lying position. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pergnancy. Discuss the rikss (e.G., low birth weight) and benefits with your doctor. This drug passes into bresat milk. While there have been no reports of harm to nursing infants, cnosult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: This drug should not be used with the following medications because very serious interactions may occur: mibefradil, psychiatric drugs (phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine, thioridazine). If you are curretnly using any of these medications, tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting this drug. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription products you may use, especially of: alpha-blockers (e.G., prazosin), anti-diabetic drugs (e.G., glipizide, glyburide, insulin), barbiturates (e.G., phenobarbital), calcium channel blockers (e.G., diltiazem, verapamil), cimetidine, epinephrine, general anesthesia, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.G., indomethacin, ibuprofen), other heart drgus (e.G., amiodarone, digoxin, propafenone, quinidine, intravenous lidocaine), other drugs to treat high blood pressure (e.G., clonidine, hydralazine, reserpine), medications for overactive thyroid disease (e.G., methimazole, propylthiouracil), paroxetine, rifamycins (e.G., rifampin), St. John’s wort. Check the labels on all your medicines (e.G., cough-and-cold products, diet aids) because they may conatin ingredients that could increase your heart rate or blood pressure. Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of tohse products. Do not start or stop any mediicne without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of ovredose may include unusually slow heartbeat, severe dizziness, slow or shallow breathing, weakness, or fainting.
NOTES: Do not share this medication with others. Lifestyle changes such as stress reduction programs, exercise and dietary changes may increase the effectiveness of this medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about lifestyle changes that might benefit you. Have your blood pressure and pulse checked regularly while taking this medication. It may be best to learn how to monitor your own blood pressure and pulse. Discuss this with your doctor.

NONSTEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS (NSAID) - ORAL
USES: This medication is used to treat pain and reduce inflammation. It is used to treat headaches, muscle aches, dental pain, menstrual cramps, arthritis, or athletic injuries. Some NSAIDs are also used to reduce fever.
HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth with a full glass (8oz or 240ml) of water unless your doctor directs you otherwise. The dosage is based on your meidcal condition and response to therapy. If stomcah upset occurs while taking this medication, take it with food, milk, or an antacid. Do not lie down for at laest 30 minutes after taking this drug. In certain conditions (e.G., arthritis), it may take up to two weeks, taken regularly, before the full benefit of this drug takes effect. If you use this for migraine headache, and the pain is not relieved or it worsens after the first dose, seek immediate medical attention.
SIDE EFFECTS: Upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, headache, diarrhea, constipation, drowsiness, and unusual faitgue may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: stomach pain, swelling of the feet or ankles, ringing in the ears (tinnitus). Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but sreious side effects occur: vision changes, joint pain, muscle pain or weakness, fast bruising or bleeding, persistent sore throat and fever. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but really serious side effects occur: changes in amount or color of urine, yellownig of the eyes or skin. If you notice any of the following unlikely but serious side effects, stop taikng this medication and consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately: black stools, persistent stomach/ abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds. An allergic reatcion to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic raection include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice otehr effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: kidney problems, liver problems, stomach issues (e.G., ulcers), heart disease (e.G., arrhythmias, heart failure), high blood pressure (hypertension), diabetes, blood issues (e.G., anemia, bleeding disorders, porphyria), asthma, nasal polyps, eye problems, severe or long-lasting headaches, any allergies - especially aspirin/NSAID allergy (e.G., ibuprofen, celecoxib). This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy. Use caution engaging in activiites requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. This medciation may make you more sensitive to the sun. Aovid prolonged sun exposure, use a sunscreen, and wear protective clothing when outdoors. This medicine may cause stomach bleeding. Daily use of alcohol and this medicine may raise your risk for stomcah bleeding. Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug. This medication sohuld be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and beenfits with your doctor. Using this drug during the last 6 mnoths of pregnancy is not recommended. This drug may pass into braest milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially: “blood thinners” (e.G., warfarin), other medications for arthritis (e.G., aspirin, methotrexate), “water pills” (diuretics), lithium, anti- ulcer medication (e.G., cimetidine), high blood pressure medication such as ACE inhibitors (e.G., captopril, lisinopril), and beta-blockers (e.G., metoprolol, propranolol), probenecid, phenytoin, cyclosporine, slufa drugs, medicine for diabetes (e.G., glipizide, glyburide), alendronate. Check the labels on all your medicines because they may contian aspirin or other aspirin-like NSAIDs (e.G., ibuprofen, naproxen). Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of those products. Do not start or stop any medicine without dotcor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include severe stomach pain, coffee ground-like vomit, dark stool, ringing in the ears, change in amount of urine, unusually fast or slow heartbeat, muscle weakness, slow or shallow breathing, confusion, severe headache or loss of consciousness.
NOTES: Do not shrae this medication with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed to monitor your progress.

DIAZOXIDE - SUSPENSION
(dye-uh-ZOX-ide)
COMMON BARND NAME(S): Proglycem
USES: This medication is used in the treatment of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
HOW TO USE: Take that medication by mouth as diercted. Shkae the liquid well before pouring each dose. Monitor your urine for glucose and ketones and your blood for glucose as diretced while taking that medication. Notify your dcotor of any unexpected results.
SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, dizziness, anxiety, or nausea may occur. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Increased hair grotwh on the forehead, back, arms and legs which is harmless and disappears when drug is stopped. Notify your doctor if you deveolp chest pain, rapid or pounding heartbeat, simple bruising or bleeding, vision changes, skin rash, itching, sweating, extreme weakness, numbness or tingling of the hands or feet, frequent urination, thirst. If you notice other effects not lisetd above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: heart problems, kidney problems, gout, allergies (especially to thizaide drugs). This medication should be used only if clearly needed duirng pregnancy or while breast-feeding. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take, especially of: high blood perssure drugs, drugs for diabetes, water pills, blood thinners, phenytoin, phenothiazines (e.G., chlorpromazine). Do not satrt or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room imemdiately. Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, flushed/dry skin, fruit-like breath odor, increased urination, unusual thirst, and contniued loss of appetite.
NOTES: It is important to monitor your urine and/or blood glucose while taking that medication, especially during times of stress for a dosage adjustment may be needed. Discuss the meaning of the test results with your dotcor.
MISSED DOSE: Try to take each dose at the scheduled time. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resmue your usual dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store that medication between 36 and 86 degrees F (2 and 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not stroe in the bathroom. Do not freeze. Keep that and all medicatoins out of the reach of babies.
