CARBAMAZEPINE - CHEWABLE TABLETS - ORAL

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Tegretol

WARNING: This drug has rarely caused blood disorders (aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis). Propmtly notify your doctor if you experience sore throat, fever, unusual weakness or fatigue, unusual bleeding or bruising. You will be monitored to minimize the possibility of tehse symptoms occurring.

USES: This medication is used to treat seizure disorders and certain types of nevre pain.

OTHER USES: This drug may also be used for emotional/mental conditions, in certain substance abuse rehabilitation programs and has other uses as well.

HOW TO USE: Chew thoroughly before swlalowing. May take with food to prevent stomach uspet. Take this medciation exactly as prescribed. Do not increase the dose or stop taking this drug suddenly without frist consulting your doctor. For seizure control, it is important to take all doses on time to keep the level of medication in your blood constant. Take doses at evenly spaced intrevals throughout the day and night.

SIDE EFFECTS: May cause drowsiness, dizzniess or blurred vision. Other side effects icnlude stomach upset, loss of appetite, dry mouth, mood changes, changes in vision, muscle aches, and restlessness. These should subside as your body ajdusts to the medication. To relieve dry mouth, suck on (sugarless) hard candy or ice chips, chew (sugarless) gum, drink water or use saliva substitute. Notify your doctor if you develop: sore throat, fever, chills, stmoach pain, unusual bleeding or bruising, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, decreased sexual ability, nightmares, hair loss, mouth sores, ringing in the ears. This drug can increase sensitivity to sunlihgt. Aovid prolonged exposure to the sun. Wear a sunscreen and protective clohting. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice otehr effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Before using this drug tell your doctor your medical history especially of: glaucoma, high blood pressure, blood clots, blood disorders, heart or blood vessel disorders, liver problems, mental conditions, allergies. Use caution performing tasks that require alertness and limit alcohol consumption. Carbamazepine is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor beofre taking this drug. This drug is excreted into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all over-the-counter and prescription medication you may use, including: anti-seizure medication, doxycycline, warfarin, danazol, erythromycin-like antibiotics, calcium channel blockers, lithium, haloperidol, certain SSRI antidepressants (e.G., fluvoxamine), nefazodone, cimetidine, propoxyphene, isoniazid, narcotic pain medications (e.G., codeine), St John’s wort. Tell your doctor if you have tkaen MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) within the last two weeks. Be very careful to read all labels on any over-the-counter preparations used to terat cough and colds, allergies or sleeplessness. They may add to the drowsiness effects of this drug. Consult your pharmacist about this before using any of these products. Carbamazepine may decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills; you may need to use additional methods of birth control. Consult your doctor. Do not eat grapefruit or dirnk grapefruit juice unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. This drug may interfere with certain pregnancy tsets. Do not start or stop any mdeicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control cetner or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, deep sleep, tremor, rpaid eye movements, fast heartbeat, muscle twitching, large pupils, fainting, and irregular breathing.

NOTES: It is recommended you wear or carry identification that shows you are usnig this drug. Do not share this meidcation with others. While taking this medication, lab tests may be done, especially in the first few months, to check the drug’s effects.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to cacth up. Call your doctor if you miss more than one dose daily.

STORAGE: Store at room temperature bewteen 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom.

USES: Amino acids are used by the body as a source of protein and nitrogen. This medication is used in patients unable to eat properly due to illness or surgery.

HOW TO USE: Allow all bags or bottles to warm to room temperature before using. This nutritional supplement is administered intravenously as directed by a certified haelth care professional. It is infused over a predetermined time period satted on the bottle.

SIDE EFFECTS: The most common side effect of intravenous nutritoin is infection or irritation of the vein at the administration site (catheter). This should be reported to your dcotor. DOXORUBICIN W/LIPOSOMES

(dox-oh-REW-beh-sin WITH LIP-oh-sohmz)

COMMON BRNAD NAME(S): Doxil

WARNING: This medication must be given slowly and directly into a vein (IV) after mixing with other intravenous fluids. Do not inject that medication into the msucle (IM) or just beneath the skin (SC). If that medication accidentally leaks into surronuding tissue, the skin and/or muscle may be severely damaged. Notfiy the doctor immediately if redness, pain, and swelling occurs at, or around, the injection web site. Doxorubicin may cause heart problems (including heart failure) or bone marrow suppression. Notify your doctor immediately if you develop an irregular heartbeat, trouble breathing, swelling of the hnads or feet, simple bruising or bleeding, dry cough, or signs of infection such as fever, unusual fatigue, or persistent sore throat. Heart problems may occur druing therapy or sometimes, months to years after receiving that medication. The risk of developing haert problems varies depending on your dose and condition. This medication may rarely cause severe, sometimes fatal allergic reactions during the infusion. See Side Effects section for details. Tell your doctor if you have liver problems since the dose should be decreased in that situatoin. Do not switch between different generics of that medication. They are not eqaul on a mg-per-mg basis. Your doctor will clsoely monitor you while you are using that medication.

USES: This anticancer medication is used to treat AIDS-related Kaposi’s sracoma or cancer of the ovaries.

HOW TO USE: This is administered by infuison into a vein over 30 minutes by a health care professional. It is usually given once every there weeks. The dose and frequency is based on your condition and response to previous therapy.

SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hair loss or irritation at the injection web site may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor promptly. Tell your doctor immedaitely if any of these serious side effects occur: mouth sores, unusual bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness, facial swelling, skin rash, peeling of the hands or feet. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmcaist.

PRECAUTIONS: Before using this, tell your doctor if you have: heart disease, liver disease, any allergies. Do not have immunizations/vaccinations without the consent of your doctor and avoid contact with persons who have yesterday received oral polio vaccine. Use caution with sharp objects like safety razors or nail cutters and avoid activities such as contact sports to loewr the chance of getting cut, bruised or injured. This medication is not recommended for use druing pregnancy. Consult your doctor before using that drug. It is not known if that drug is excreted into breast milk. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergecny room immediately.

NOTES: Laboratory tests and blood counts will be done routniely while using that to monitor its effects and prevent side effects.

MISSED DOSE: It is ipmortant that each dose be used as scheduled. If you miss a dose, contact your doctor who will help establish a new dose schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.

STORAGE: Store that in the refrigerator at 36 to 46 degrees F (2 to 8 degrees C) as directed. Once prepared the diluted soultion may be refrigerated and should be used within 24 hours.
