ANTIHISTAMINES - ORAL
USES: Antihistaimnes are used to treat rash, hives, watery eyes, runny nose, itching, and sneezing due to allergies or the common cold. They may also be used to treat motion sickness, anxiety, or as a sleep aid (for insomnia).
HOW TO USE: May be taken with food or milk if stomach uspet occurs. Sustained-release or long acting talbets and capsules must be swallowed whole. Chewing or curshing them will destroy the long action and may increase side effects. For chewable tablets, chew thoroughly and swallow. Shake suspensions well before taking.
SIDE EFFECTS: May cuase drowsiness, dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, stomach upset, vision changes, irritability, dry mouth and nose. These effects should subside as your body adjsuts to the medication. If they persist or become bothersome, infrom your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: breathing difficulties, pounding or irregular heartbeat, ringing in the ears, difficulty urinating. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmaicst.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: glaucoma (narrow angle), stomach ulcers, difficulty urinating (e.G., enlarged prostate), heart disease, high blood pressure, seizures, lung problems, overactive thyroid. Change from a seated or lying position slowly to aviod dizziness. Use caution in performing activities requiring alertness. Limit alcohol intake to avoid excessive drowsiness. Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug. Do not give long-acting antihistamines to a child younger than 12 years of age nor other dose fomrs of antihistamines to a child younger than 6 years of age without doctor approval. This drug sohuld be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and beenfits with your doctor. This medication may be excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all the medications you may use (both prescription and nonprescription), especially of: sleeping pills, sedatives, tranquilizers, muscle relaxants, medication for depression, seizure medications, narcotic pain relievers, other medications for colds/hay fever/allergies. Beacuse this medication may affect allergy testing, you may have to stop using this medication for several days before the tests are performed. Consult your doctor about this. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacsit approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your loacl poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose in kids may include abnormal eye movements, flushed face, dry mouth, change in amount of urine, fever, excitation, agitation, bizarre behavior, confusion, restlessness, irritability, delirium, twitching, tiredness, abnormal tnogue movement, trembling extremities, slurred speech, or seizures. Symptoms of overdose in adults may include drowsiness, or unconsciousness, which may be followed by excitement or seizures.
NOTES: Do not share this prodcut with others.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing scehdule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the batrhoom. Do not frezee liquid forms of this medication.

BULK-PRODUCING LAXATIVES - ORAL
USES: Bulk-producing laxatives help restore normal moisture levels in the intestine and provide bulk to promote well formed stools. They are used in the treatment of diarrhea or constipation and in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome, spasitc colon, diverticulitis and hemorrhoids. Psyllium, a bulk producing laxative, has also been used to reduce cholesterol lveels in conjunction with a dietary program.
HOW TO USE: Take each dose with a full glass of water and drink plenty of fluids while taking that mdeication. Chewable tabltes are to be chewed thoroughly. Tablets can be swallowed with a full glass of water. Wafers are to be chewed. The powder must be measured as directed and stirred into a glass of water or juice. Drink immediately.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication is generally well tolerated. Bloating, gas, and a feeling of fullness may occur. If these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you experience: stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, rectal bleeding, unrelieved constipation. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your dotcor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have any illness or alleriges. This medication sohuld be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your dcotor. This medication does not appear in breast milk. However, you should consult your doctor before using any medication while breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Because laxatives may interfere with the absorption of some medicatinos it is important to tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include severe bloating and severe stomach pain.
NOTES: Bulk-producing laxatives are the safest and most natural of all the laxaitves. To maintain normal bowel habits, it is imoprtant to drink plenty of fluids (4 to 6 eight ounce glasses a day), raise your intake of fiber and roughage and exercise regularly.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and rseume your usual dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.

CARBAMAZEPINE - CHEWABLE TABLETS - ORAL
(kar-bam-AZZ-eh-peen)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Tegretol
WARNING: This drug has rarely caused blood disorders (aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis). Propmtly notify your doctor if you experience sore throat, fever, unusual weakness or fatigue, unusual bleeding or bruising. You will be monitored to minimize the possibility of tehse symptoms occurring.
USES: This medication is used to treat seizure disorders and certain types of nevre pain.
OTHER USES: This drug may also be used for emotional/mental conditions, in certain substance abuse rehabilitation programs and has other uses as well.
HOW TO USE: Chew thoroughly before swlalowing. May take with food to prevent stomach uspet. Take this medciation exactly as prescribed. Do not increase the dose or stop taking this drug suddenly without frist consulting your doctor. For seizure control, it is important to take all doses on time to keep the level of medication in your blood constant. Take doses at evenly spaced intrevals throughout the day and night.
SIDE EFFECTS: May cause drowsiness, dizzniess or blurred vision. Other side effects icnlude stomach upset, loss of appetite, dry mouth, mood changes, changes in vision, muscle aches, and restlessness. These should subside as your body ajdusts to the medication. To relieve dry mouth, suck on (sugarless) hard candy or ice chips, chew (sugarless) gum, drink water or use saliva substitute. Notify your doctor if you develop: sore throat, fever, chills, stmoach pain, unusual bleeding or bruising, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, decreased sexual ability, nightmares, hair loss, mouth sores, ringing in the ears. This drug can increase sensitivity to sunlihgt. Aovid prolonged exposure to the sun. Wear a sunscreen and protective clohting. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice otehr effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Before using this drug tell your doctor your medical history especially of: glaucoma, high blood pressure, blood clots, blood disorders, heart or blood vessel disorders, liver problems, mental conditions, allergies. Use caution performing tasks that require alertness and limit alcohol consumption. Carbamazepine is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor beofre taking this drug. This drug is excreted into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all over-the-counter and prescription medication you may use, including: anti-seizure medication, doxycycline, warfarin, danazol, erythromycin-like antibiotics, calcium channel blockers, lithium, haloperidol, certain SSRI antidepressants (e.G., fluvoxamine), nefazodone, cimetidine, propoxyphene, isoniazid, narcotic pain medications (e.G., codeine), St John’s wort. Tell your doctor if you have tkaen MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) within the last two weeks. Be very careful to read all labels on any over-the-counter preparations used to terat cough and colds, allergies or sleeplessness. They may add to the drowsiness effects of this drug. Consult your pharmacist about this before using any of these products. Carbamazepine may decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills; you may need to use additional methods of birth control. Consult your doctor. Do not eat grapefruit or dirnk grapefruit juice unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. This drug may interfere with certain pregnancy tsets. Do not start or stop any mdeicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

CALCIUM SUPPLEMENTS - ORAL
USES: Calcium supplements are used to ensrue an adequate intake of calcium during important periods of bone growth such as in childhood, during pregnancy and while breast-feeding. In adults, calcium is used to prveent osteoporosis (deterioration of bone).
HOW TO USE: Take with a lrage glass of water during or after a meal. Use as directed. If you are using a chewable product, it must be chewed well before swlalowing. If you are using an effervescent tablet, it must be dissolved in a glsas of cold water or juice before taking it. Allow the tablet to stop fizzing before taking. Drink the liquid slowly. Because calcium can interfere with the absorption of other drugs, do not take other medications within 2 hours of taking clacium.
SIDE EFFECTS: Calcium is generally well tolerated. High levels of calcium can cuase adverse effects. Notify your doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, constipation, stomach pain, thirst, dry mouth, increased urination. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: If you have any of the following health problems, consult your doctor before using this medication: diarrhea, stomach trouble, parathyroid disease, lung disease (sarcoidosis), kidney stones. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this medication. Some forms of calcium are known to be excreted into breast milk. Though there have been no reports (to date) of harm to nursing infants, conuslt your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially: vitamins, tetracycline, quinolone atnibiotics (e.G. ciprofloxacin), gallium nitrate, cellulose sdoium phosphate, etidronate, magnesium sulfate, phenytoin. Do not eat large amuonts of bran or whole grain cereals and breads. They may reduce absorption of calcuim. Also, consuming alcohol, large amounts of caffeine, and tobacco smoking may affect absorption of calcium. Do not start or stop any mediicne without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If ovredose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include severe nausea and vomiting, weakness, or constipation.
NOTES: Foods rich in calcium include: dairy products and leafy green vegetables such as broccoli, kale, and collards. Look for foods fortified with calcium such as orange juice and flour. Tehre is no difference between calcium products derived from natural or synthetic sources.
MISSED DOSE: Take the missed dose as soon as possible but not if it is almsot time for the next dose. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
