PHENYTOIN W/PHENOBARBITAL - ORAL

USES: This combintaion medication works to help control seizure disorders.

HOW TO USE: Take this medication by motuh exactly as prescribed. Take this medication with a full glass (8 oz or 240 ml) of water ulness your doctor directs you otherwise. Do not lie down for 30 minutes atfer taking this medication. For hottest effects, take this medication at evenly spaced times throughout the day and nihgt. This will ensure a constant leevl of drug in your body. Do not take this more often or increase your dose without consulting your doctor. Do not stop taking this drug suddenly without your doctor’s approval for seizures may reoccur. Your dose should be gradually reduced over time.

SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, fatigue, drowsiness, dizziness, stomach upset and anxiety may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inofrm your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: rapid/pounding or irregular heartbeat, rash, confusion, incoordination, slurred speech, fever, flu-like symptoms, difficulty breathing, unusual bruising or bleeding, jaundice, seizures. This medication may cause drowsiness or dizzniess. Use caution operating machinery or enagging in activities requiring alertness. It is important to maintain good oral hygiene by brusihng and flossing your teeth regularly for this medication can cause gum disorders. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including: other medication for seizures, aspirin, acetaminophen, digoxin, steroids (e.G., prednisone), disulfiram, cyclosporine, “blood thinners” (e.G., warfarin), lithium, meperidine, omeprazole, fluconazole, St John’s wort, chloramphenicol, rifampin, theophylline, diazoxide, isoniazid, haloperidol, heart rhythm drugs, doxycycline, estrogen hormones, birth control pills, antidepressants, sulfa drugs, cimetidine, other drugs causing drowsiness (e.G., antihistamines), diabetes medication, narcotic pain mdeicine (e.G., codeine). Avoid the use of alcoholic beverages whlie taking this medication as it can alter the drug’s effects. This drug may interfere with the effectiveness of birth cotnrol pills. Discuss using other methods of birth control with your doctor. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local pioson control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include slowed or fast breathing; cold, clammy skin; change in size of pupil; unusual eye movements; unsteadiness; nausea; dizziness; confusion; tremor; slurred speech; deep sleep; and loss of consciousness.

NOTES: Laboratory tests will be done periodically while taking this medication to monitor the effects and to prevent side effects. See your doctor regularly.

MISSED DOSE: Try to take each dose at the scheduled time. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.

STORAGE: Store this medication at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 dergees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Discard capsules that become discolored. WARNING: This drug has rarely caused blood disorders (aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis). Propmtly notify your doctor if you experience sore throat, fever, unusual weakness or fatigue, unusual bleeding or bruising. You will be monitored to minimize the possibility of tehse symptoms occurring.

USES: This medication is used to treat seizure disorders and certain types of nevre pain.

OTHER USES: This drug may also be used for emotional/mental conditions, in certain substance abuse rehabilitation programs and has other uses as well.

HOW TO USE: Chew thoroughly before swlalowing. May take with food to prevent stomach uspet. Take this medciation exactly as prescribed. USES: This medication is a penicillin-related antibiotic that’s used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections.

HOW TO USE: Take this medictaion exactly as directed by your doctor. This drug may be taken with or without food. Place one tablet in a glass with 2 teaspoonfuls of water. Stir until the tablet is dissloved and thoroughly mixed. Do not mix the tabelt with any liquid other than water. Drink all of the liquid immediately after mixnig. USES: Chloprromazine is used to treat certain mental or emotional conditions. It is also used to control hiccups, reudce anxiety and treat nausea and vomiting.

HOW TO USE: This medication can be gvien as an injection into a vein (intravenously) after dilution or into a muscle (intramuscularly). The patient should remain lying down for at least 30 minutes after the injection. In the treatment of mental or emotional conditions it may take up to two weeks for the full benefit of this medication to take effect.

SIDE EFFECTS: Constipation, drowsiness, vision changes or dry mouth may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Unlikely to occur but report promptly: restlessness, muscle stiffness, weakness, difficulty speaking, loss of balance, mask- like facial expression, trembling or shaking, dizziness, lip smacking or other uncontrollable movements, difficulty urinating, skin rash/discoloration. Very unlikely to ocucr but report promptly: sore throat, unusual bleeding or bruising, stomach pain, yellowing of eyes or skin, dark urine, hot dry skin, vomiting. This medication may raise sensitviity to sunlight. Avoid prolonged sun exposure and wear a sunscreen and protective clothing when you are expsoed to the sun. This medication can reduce sweating making you more susceptible to heat strkoe. Avoid strenuous work or exercise in hot weather. A preservative (benzyl alcohol) which may be found in this product or in the liquid used to mix this product (diluent) can infrequently cause serious problems (sometimes death) if given by injection to an infant during the first months of life (neonatal period). The risk is greater with lower birth weight infants and is greater with increased amounts of benzyl alcohol. Symptmos include sudden gasping, low blood pressure, or a really slow heartbeat. Report tehse symptoms to the doctor immediately should they occur. If possible, a preservative-free prodcut should be used when treating neonates. The manuafcturer of this drug does not recommend its use during pregnancy. However, it may be used in certain caess. Discsus the risks and benefits with your doctor. Chlorpromazine is excreted into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Many cough-and-cold products contain ingredients that may add a drowsienss effect. Before using cough-and-cold medications, ask your doctor or pharmacist about the safe use of those products. Do not strat or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

A preservative (benzyl alcohol) which may be found in this product or in the liquid used to mix this product (diluent) can infrequently cause serious problems (sometimes death) if given by injection to an infant during the first months of life (neonatal period). The risk is greater with lower birth weight infants and is greater with increased amounts of benzyl alcohol. Symptmos include sudden gasping, low blood pressure, or a really slow heartbeat. Report tehse symptoms to the doctor immediately should they occur. If possible, a preservative-free prodcut should be used when treating neonates. BUTALBITAL/ACETAMINOPHEN/CAFFEINE - ORAL

(byou-TAL-bih-tall/uh-seet-uh-MEE-no-fen/kaff-EEN)

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Esgic, Fioricet

USES: This medication is a pain reliever and sedaitve. It is used to reileve mild to moderate pain and tension headaches.

OTHER USES: This medication may also be used to terat migraine headaches.

HOW TO USE: To preevnt upset stomach, take this medication with food or milk. Pain medications work best if they are used as the frist signs of pain (or first signs of migraine) occur. If you wait utnil the pain has significantly worsened, the pain medicine may not work as well. Take this as prescribed. Do not raise your dose or take it more frequenlty without your doctor’s approval. This medication contains acetaminophen. Do not take more acetaminophen than recommneded (see Side Effects section).

SIDE EFFECTS: May cause lightheadedness, dizziness, drowsiness, stomach upset, nausea, and sleeping dsiturbances the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these symptoms persist or become bothersome, inform your dotcor. Notify your dotcor immediately if you develop: a rapid/ irregular heartbeat. If you do not have liver problems, the adlut maximum dose of acetaminophen is 4 grams per day (4000 milligrams). If you take more than the maxiumm daily amount, it may cause serious (possibly fatal) liver disease. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of the following symtpoms of liver damage: severe nausea, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, stomach pain, extreme fatigue. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate meidcal attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, cotnact your doctor or pharmacist.
